The second edition of the event dedicated to environmental sustainability
May 31 - June 1, 2019 - Pollenzo and Tenuta Monsordo Bernardina-Alba

For its second edition, “Coltivare e Custodire” - an event created by the Ceretto Winery and the University of Gastronomic Sciences - takes on a feminine perspective.

The event will focus on women in agriculture of all ages and origins who are devoted to sustainable food. From its cultivation to its transformation, from its creation to its dissemination: from the fields to the table, stories, meetings, conversations, theatrical events and exchanges in the kitchen for two days dedicated to exploring the values of the earth in the two exceptional locations of Pollenzo and the Tenuta Monsordo Bernardina in Alba.

Coltivare e Custodire is also a recognition, at the international level, of the defense of the environment, of ecology, and of sustainable agriculture. These are the fundamental values of the event that, for two days, will see students, cooks, farmers, winemakers, producers, and journalists meet and exchange ideas exploring 2019’s theme, bringing together their own experiences and actions as evidence of a concrete way of working the land, respecting it, and sharing a different take on agricultural, culinary, and gastronomic activities.

We are enthusiastically continuing this project with the University of Gastronomic Sciences, with which we share a genuine love and respect for the land that goes from taking care of the landscape to the practice of sustainable agriculture, from a respect for tradition to a commitment of ensuring healthy soil for the future,” stated Roberta Ceretto, third generation at the helm of the Ceretto Winery together with her cousins Alessandro and Elisa and brother Federico. “Producing wines able to tell the story of our land has given us the desire to come together every year in these places that share this vision for recounting their experiences and inspiring other virtuous acts of sustainable and possible agriculture everywhere.

Coltivare e Custodire has now become a central event for the whole community of Pollenzo,”  declared Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food International. “An event that proves that winning synergies can be born from the meeting of virtuous actors of the land, demonstrating once again the power of food and wine, which unites and builds bridges. And this year’s theme is of extraordinary importance because women in agriculture, always the silent guardians of gastronomic know-how, have a key role in the future of food and the whole planet. The time has come to speak about them and give them a voice.

Coltivare e Custodire will begin Friday, May 31 in Pollenzo at 3:00pm with the awarding of an honorary degree to Vilda R. Figueroa Frade, who for decades along with her husband - José A.
