Massimo Vittori – Geographical Indications (GIs): between tradition and modernity

GIs are names used to identify and commercialize natural agricultural products and foodstuffs (such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Jamon de Terruel, Darjeeling Tea, Café de Colombia), wines (Champagne) and spirits (Pisco), as well as other traditionally made products such as handicrafts (Pochampally Ikat). These products are deeply rooted in a given geographical and cultural environment. Massimo Vittori is currently the Managing Director of oriGIn, in charge of the strategic planning and overall management of the Organisation. In the presentation, he will look at the main socio-economic aspects related to GIs and their impact on food habits and agriculture.
