Quest’anno il Salone del Gusto e Terra Madre sono una cosa sola. È la grande novità, un evento storico per tutto il movimento internazionale Slow Food, per Torino, per il Piemonte e per tutti gli affezionati visitatori che seguono il Salone Internazionale del Gusto fin dalla sua prima edizione, nel 1996.
Le due manifestazioni portano a compimento un percorso già tracciato a partire dal 2004, l’anno in cui è nata Terra Madre, e che le ha viste sempre affiancate in una scelta precisa e consapevole: il mondo del cibo e della gastronomia non possono prescindere da chi lavora la terra, da chi trasforma ogni giorno la natura in cultura, da chi sente su di sé, sui suoi campi e sulla propria comunità il peso di problemi ecologici, climatici, economici, sociali sempre più soffocanti.
L’evento Salone del Gusto e Terra Madre 2012 si pone come una grande narrazione collettiva, completamente aperta al pubblico (e gli incontri di Terra Madre lo sono per la prima volta). Si parte dal racconto delle persone e dei territori per gustare meglio, capire di più, incontrare e scambiare. La rete delle comunità del cibo si unisce all’incredibile patrimonio del Salone, fatto di produttori, cuochi, Laboratori del Gusto, attività educative, Presìdi Slow Food, lo arricchisce e offre nuove opportunità ai visitatori, con tutti gli appuntamenti classici e un fitto programma di conferenze. Le storie dei protagonisti di Salone del Gusto e Terra Madre 2012 ci raccontano di come si può cambiare il paradigma che regola questo mondo in crisi a partire dal cibo. E dimostrano che possiamo fare qualcosa di buono per la nostra salute, l’ambiente e il sistema produttivo senza rinunciare al piacere del cibo e alla convivialità, facendone anzi una bandiera da sventolare con orgoglio.
Ecco perché abbiamo scelto come slogan di questa edizione “Cibi che cambiano il mondo”. Un progetto rivoluzionario, che però richiede un nuovo modo di pensare: noi ci mettiamo i cibi, voi metteteci la testa!

This year, the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre will become one. This great innovation is a historic moment for the entire international Slow Food movement, for Turin, for Piedmont and for all the faithful visitors who have been following the Salone del Gusto since its debut in 1996.
The union of the two events is the fulfillment of a process that began in 2004, the year Terra Madre was first held. Since then, as part of a conscious decision, they have steadily drawn closer and closer. The world of food and gastronomy cannot neglect those who work the land, who regularly transform nature into culture, who feel the weight of ecological, climate, economic and social problems growing more and more suffocating every day.
The Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012 is presenting itself as a great collective narrative, completely open to the public. This will be the first time that anyone who is interested can attend the Terra Madre meetings. The stories of people and places will be the starting point as the network of food communities weaves together with the incredible patchwork of the Salone, made up of producers, chefs, Taste Workshops, educational activities, Slow Food Presidia and more. It will enrich it and offer new opportunities to visitors, on top of all the classic events and a rich program of conferences. The stories of the special guests of the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012 show us how we can change the paradigm that governs this world in crisis, using food as the key. And they show that we can do something good for our health, the environment and the production system without giving up the pleasures of food and conviviality, instead using them as a banner to be waved with pride.
That’s why we have chosen as this year’s slogan, “Foods that change the world”. Our project is revolutionary, and demands a new way of thinking: Food for thought, thought for food.
