The University of Gastronomic Sciences postpones in-person academic activities and activates online learning

The message from Rector Andrea Pieroni to students

On the basis of ministerial provisions, the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo is reorganizing its academic offerings, also in consideration of the large international presence of students and professors.

Some courses, which require a substantial part of the academic activities to take place in groups  (i.e. research work, laboratory work, and territorial visits) have been postponed until April 15, 2020; while for other courses that require a larger number of direct lessons, we will arrange for the presentation of such lessons remotely.

The technical-administrative staff, regularly operational, is available to respond to any students’ questions or needs.

A specific and prompt communication regarding each course of study (undergraduate and graduate programs) and the various currently existing Masters programs has been made available and sent to each enrolled student.

At the same time, all events, including conferences, meetings of experts, and, of course, study trips – a unique offering of Pollenzo’s UNISG – have been suspended and will be rescheduled as soon as the health emergency has subsided and it will be possible to return to the normal academic offerings.

The thesis discussion sessions scheduled for this period of suspension will additionally be offered online.

In this regard, Rector Andrea Pieroni addressed all students: “Each day we are confronting an epidemiological emergency in continuous evolution, to which, until today, we have reacted with measures adopted in line with the announced ministerial provisions, in concert with other Piedmontese universities. To address this situation of uncertainty, with the objective of ensuring you, our students, the academic quality that you expect from our university, we have had to take extraordinarily precautionary measures. The postponement of the start of the academic activities will allow each of you to follow classroom lectures and to participate in tastings and in group work, benefiting from innovative academic methods that are difficult to adopt with lessons taught remotely. Regarding, instead, academic offerings that can be provided online, you will be contacted by the individual teachers for details on these activities. In the following weeks, you will be informed promptly as soon as there are new provisions from the competent authorities.”
