With the editorial “L'épistœnologie: repenser le vin comme expérience” published in the prestigious French journal “Revue du Vin de France” the renowned sommelier, author, and journalist Pascaline Lepeltier describes how, after years of experience in wine tasting, she discovered a new approach thanks to reading the French translation of the essay “Epistenologia: il vino come filosofia” by our rector Nicola Perullo.

Through neuroscience and philosophy, Lepeltier recognizes tasting as an experience that engages both body and mind, revealing our way of being in the world.
In Nicola Perullo’s book—explains the author—a key distinction emerges: the “optical” approach, dominant and based on detached and objectifying analysis, and the “haptic” one, grounded instead in contact, relationship, and lived experience.

The latter invites us to overcome the distance between subject and wine, conceiving tasting as a dynamic and transformative process in which both are altered. From this perspective, tasting becomes an act of attention, imagination, and presence, capable of making the experience of wine—especially that tied to territory—more authentic, aware, and vital.

As a university, we are pleased with this important international visibility brought by the ideas and thought of our rector to the world of wine.
