The project aims to define a pathway for the establishment of a Food and Agricultural Biodiversity Community in Valchiusella, as a model replicable in other areas of Piedmont. Its goal is to safeguard and enhance local genetic resources—both plant and animal—while promoting sustainable farming practices and responsible tourism.

Description

The project foresees a census of Piedmontese contexts suitable for creating a Food and Agricultural Biodiversity Community in Valchiusella, as a model that can also be replicated in other Alpine areas of Piedmont.

The project aims to:

  • safeguard and enhance biodiversity – local plant species and animal breeds listed in the national registry;
  • strengthen the link between agriculture, livestock farming, and sustainable tourism, promoting traditional productions and the use of local resources;
  • actively engage local communities;
  • disseminate knowledge and best practices through education, outreach days, markets, tastings, and awareness-raising events;
  • guide rural development policies in marginal areas by providing a transferable operational model.

Around May 20, 2026, in one of the municipalities interested in joining the Food Community, a celebration will be organized for the National Biodiversity Day 2026.
