Turkish Cuisine: A Culinary Journey Through History

This lecture offers a broad survey of the history of food and drink culture in the Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey, covering a time period of more than 700 years and focusing on Istanbul, the imperial capital and home to the Ottoman palaces that represented a model for the rest of the empire. The thematic topics covered include the culinary culture of the Ottoman palaces and courtly banquets in contrast to the everyday eating and drinking customs of common people, food culture in religious communities and traditional and modern table manners, as well as how gastronomical habits in modern Turkey reflect a direct continuation from the Ottoman past.
We have adapted the organization of Seminars and Conferences in respect of the government health provisions to guarantee strict compliance from all those involved in the academic experience (students, teachers, administrative staff), in an effort to safeguard everyone’s safety.
For this reason all the conferences will take place remotely and will be recorded; each of them will have a virtual classroom available on the BlackBoard e-learning platform that will be exactly comunicated.
