International Workshop on “Research and Education in Agroecology” in Pollenzo

September 17, 2025 – University of Gastronomic Sciences
As part of the Congress of the Italian Society of Agronomy, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (UNISG) will host the international workshop “Research and Education in Agroecology”.
The initiative aims to explore the role of agroecology, now recognized by the European Commission as one of the most promising strategies for building a sustainable, resilient, and innovative agri-food system. The workshop will serve as a platform for discussion on research policies, methodologies, knowledge gaps, and educational perspectives at both European and national levels.
Program of the day
The day will begin in Turin with a technical visit to the Speranza - Vanzetti Holstein Agricultural Cooperative in Candiolo, followed by a transfer to Pollenzo.
At 3:30 pm, the plenary session (in English) will open at UNISG, moderated by Paola Migliorini (University of Gastronomic Sciences). After the institutional greetings from the Rector of UNISG and the President of the Italian Society of Agronomy, the following speakers will present:
- Susanna Gaona Saez (European Commission, Research and Innovation – online), The EU policies and strategies for strengthening Agroecology in Europe. The EU Agroecology Partnership
- Marcos Lana (Agroecology Europe, SLU), The state of the art of agroecology research & education at European level and AEEU activities
- Stefano Canali (CREA), Agroecology research & education in Italy. The RiflAEssi project
From 4:30 to 7:00 pm, discussion tables (in Italian) will follow, coordinated by Giorgio Borreani (University of Turin), including group work and a final plenary session.
The day will close with an aperitif and buffet under the Portici delle Tavole Accademiche and return to Turin in the evening.
