Gabriele Proglio (1977) received his Ph.D. in Modern History at the University of Turin in October 2014, defending a final dissertation dedicated to analyzing colonial imaginaries during the 1911-1912 Italo-Turkish war. From 2014 to 2018, he was a Research Associate at the European University Institute in the framework of the B.A.B.E. project \u2013 acronym of Bodies Across Borders: Oral and Visual Memory in Europe and Beyond \u2013 headed by Luisa Passerini and funded by the European Research Council. In that context, he carried out an oral history research on diasporas from the Horn of Africa to Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From January to June 2015, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where he gave lectures and talks. From 2015 to 2017, he was an Assistant Professor of History of the Mediterranean and History of the Arab World at the Universit\u00e9 de Tunis \u201cEl Manar\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, his research project \u201cMobility of Memory, Memory of Mobility\u201d \u2013 which was dedicated to the study of borders, mobilities and memory across the Mediterranean \u2013 was funded for six years by the Funda\u00e7\u00e3o para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia. He started to work as a researcher at the Centro de Estudos Sociais, Universidade de Coimbra, in Portugal. In 2017, he was an Assistant Professor of Oral History at the Social Sciences University of Ankara, in the framework of the \u201cPsychosocial Support and Conflict Transformation\u201d, a programme dedicated to NGO workers providing direct assistance to war-affected communities in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria e Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His main research interests are migrations, borders and mobilities in the Mediterranean, postcolonial studies and decolonial thought, race and gender studies. His current research project aims to study food and alimentation as lens through which it is possible to investigate mobilities of goods and people across the Mediterranean, from colonial periods to postcolonial conditions.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n
