Will Dirt Save Us? Soil, Food, Decarbonization – Karen Pinkus
In the past several years, some scientists have promoted soil as redemptive, as a “natural” carbon sink. “Regenerative agriculture” is another term in circulation that suggests a positive spin on global land use change that accounts for a large slice of increased greenhouse gas emissions. This talk begins by acknowledging the complex knot tying together food, fuel, energy and land in relation to issues such as scale and equity, before moving on to think about soil from a more historical and critical or theoretical perspective. What do we ask of soil and why should soil respond?

We have adapted the organization of Seminars and Conferences in respect of the government health provisions to guarantee strict compliance from all those involved in the academic experience (students, teachers, administrative staff), in an effort to safeguard everyone’s safety.
With lecturers’ permission, presentations will be recorded and made available to students who are unable to participate in-person, again pending prior authorization; recordings will be uploaded to our YouTube channel.

We invite all to participate.
