March and July 2010
International Course on Piedmontese Wines
The University of Gastronomic Sciences, founded by the international non-profit Slow Food in 2004, now brings you the opportunity to immerse yourself in Piedmont and discover its rolling hills and the essence of its winemaking excellence.
This course, organized in cooperation with top local producers and institutions, is aimed at professionals in the field (restaurants, wine bars, importers, and buyers) who believe in spreading the culture of wine throughout the world. It is designed to present not only the uniqueness of Piemontese wines, but also their rapport with the local gastronomic culture, in a context that brings together history, people, and food.
First and foremost among the great wines to be studied are Barolo and Barbaresco, but you will also be introduced to Roero, Barbera and Dolcetto, Ghemme and Gattinara, the sparkling wines of Asti and the Alta Langa, as well as other such whites as Gavi, Arneis, and Timorasso.
Participants will stay—free of charge—at the Hotel of the Agenzia di Pollenzo, adjacent to the UNISG campus in Pollenzo, a small town situated between Langa and Roero. The course is open to people from all countries, with lesson cycles held in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. (See details below.)
Each week-long program, in March and July 2010, will begin on a Monday morning and conclude the following Friday. Lessons and tastings will be held at the UNISG campus, within the Wine Bank, and among the vines and cellars of the best Piedmontese producers. Lunches and dinners, featuring local products, are also included.
Upon completion, each participant will receive a certificate of achievement, issued by the university, attesting to his or her newly acquired expertise in the Piedmontese region and its wines.
