Biography

Born in 1944, Alberto Capatti is an Associate Professor of French at the University of Pavia.

For the past 20 years he has dedicated himself the history of food and gastronomy and is a member of the management committee of the European Institute of Food History. He previously edited the monthly magazine La Gola and currently manages the Slow Food periodical Slow.

Past publications include Le goût du nouveau, origines de la modernité alimentaire (Albin Michel, 1989), the Autobiography of Pellegrino Artusi (Il Saggiatore, 1893) and L’Osteria nuova, una storia del XX secolo (Slowfood editore, 2000).

He is also the co-author, with Massimo Montanari, of La cucina italiana storia di una cultura (Laterza, 1999).
